In a segment falsely blaming Obama for rising gasoline prices, Fox News’ America’s Newsroom aired the following chart yesterday. It shows three data points — including the vague “last year” — plotted nonsensically on the x-axis:
“Last year” refers to gas prices last February; Fox’s chart omitted what happened in the 13 months between February 2011 and last week. Here’s how Fox’s source, AAA, displays the data (green line):
I can remember watching Fox when Bush was president and O’Reilly and other commentators saying you can’t blame the president for gas prices. Evidently, that only holds true for Republicans.
Hell, I remember them trying to blame Clinton for high gas prices because he was “Weak on Iraq” (whatever the fuck that means). Because, as every economist knows, energy policies take exactly four or eight years to take effect, depending on whether or not the other guy won reelection.
